Many people think they have sufficient advice because they have an advisor who picks investments for them and an accountant that files their taxes. While taxes and investments are key components of your personal financial plan, peace of mind comes from attention to all aspects of your financial life.
We believe that financial planning is a process, not an event. As such, we offer Comprehensive Planning Services that encompass all of the various areas of your financial life, as well as providing investment management, tax planning and tax preparation services.
For those who may not now be looking for comprehensive and integrated advice but just need several key questions addressed, we offer a one-time Financial Fitness Review. This consists of a documented “snapshot” of your current financial situation and answers up to three of your most pressing financial questions.
A Comprehensive Approach Leads to Better Financial Decisions and Fewer Worries
Does the following sound familiar?
- You go to a financial advisor for investment advice
- To an insurance agent to buy insurance
- To an accountant for tax preparation
- To an attorney for estate planning
- To a financial planner for a retirement plan.
You end up with several pieces of your personal financial plan in place, but each was developed independently by a different person at a different time in your life. Each of them may have given you great advice about one area of expertise, but it's a bit like deciding what the puzzle is based on only one piece. Is it any wonder the pieces don't fit together? With the right help, you can put them together successfully. We can help!
Our Planning Process...How We Work Together
If you engage us for our comprehensive planning services, we will work together something like this. During the initial year of our partnership we meet six to eight times to create and implement your plan. We will address all the areas of your financial life on a comprehensive holistic basis. The topics to be covered are shown here. Our relationship with you is an open door; as changes occur in your situation, there is no additional charge to you for additional meetings. The partnership door swings both ways; when changes to the financial landscape occur, we proactively contact you to make appropriate adjustments and keep your financial situation optimized. In subsequent years, as you successfully accomplish initial goals, we help you prioritize and establish new ones. As your financial guide, we continue monitoring your investment portfolios, your tax obligations, real estate, insurance and benefits to preserve and grow your personal net worth.
When you first contact us, we schedule a no-fee 30-minute Get Acquainted Telephone meeting so you may interview us and, at the same time, we learn about you, your needs, and your goals.
The Get Acquainted Telephone meeting is followed by an in-person meeting. There is no charge for this meeting; it is an opportunity for you to learn more about us and how we work as we learn more about you. Prior to our first in-person meeting, you will need to download the Planning Profile and return it, along with the additional information requested, two weeks in advance so that we understand your financial situation.
Does this sound like a process that would give you peace of mind? Contact us to learn more about the difference a comprehensive personal financial plan can make.
FINANCIAL FITNESS REVIEW
We often get the impression people don’t ask for help about their financial situation because they only have one or two pressing concerns and may feel they would not be a “fit” for a comprehensive engagement. However, we want to make sure every question you have is answered, especially those nagging ones that keep you up at night. That’s why we also offer a one-time Financial Fitness Review.
This consists of a “snapshot” of your current financial situation and answers up to three of your most pressing financial questions. Perhaps you can relate to some of these questions:
- I just received an inheritance. How should I invest it? How much of it can I spend?
- Am I on track to retire at 65?
- What’s the best way to pay for my child or grandchild’s education?
- Can you help me make the best 401(k) selections?
- What should I invest in?
- Do I have adequate life insurance?
- Is the life insurance policy I’ve got a rip off?
- Is retiring early an option for me?
- I’m becoming a partner in my law firm. Can you help me figure out estimated taxes?
- I want to change careers. What do I need to do to handle it financially?
For a single fee, we review your questions and concerns (along with the supporting documentation) for up to two hours during a face-to-face meeting. We also allow some time for future follow up questions directly related to the review, if needed.
If, after the Financial Fitness Review, you wish to upgrade to a full and Integrated Financial Planning engagement you may receive credit toward the Open Retainer fees for all amounts paid within the last 90 days.
If you've had a few pressing concerns that you just want to have addressed, contact us for a Financial Fitness Review.
Objective Investment Advice… Helping You Make Better Investment Decisions
Sound investment management begins with understanding your financial goals. Knowing “when” and “what the money is for” plays a big role in determining appropriate investment plans for each of our clients.
We are a fee-only financial advisory firm. Our investment advice is based on what is best for you, the client. Our investment management philosophy is centered on the belief that proper diversification and asset allocation are important components of financial success. We help you identify the proper mix of assets and then select low-cost high quality investments such as broad-index ETFs or no-load mutual funds to construct your portfolio.
Portfolios are implemented with the long-term in mind rather than ‘hot tip of the day’ trading. Minimizing the transaction costs and tax costs of investing keeps more dollars in your portfolio and helps you reach your financial goals more quickly. In addition to asset allocation, we incorporate asset location in our investment strategy to minimize your tax obligations as much as possible.
Would you worry less and be happier receiving objective investment advice? Contact us to discuss your goals, situation, and concerns. We’ll help you make the best investment decisions.
Skillful Tax Preparation and Planning…Helping You Minimize Your Tax Bill
You don’t have a choice about paying taxes, but you can avoid making the mistake of overpaying them. While it’s hard to imagine anyone intentionally paying too much in taxes, the IRS estimates that more than one billion dollars is overpaid in taxes each year. That’s no surprise when tax laws change every year—even in years when no major tax legislation is enacted.
How much of that money is yours? Wouldn’t you rather see those funds in your bank account or put aside for your retirement or other financial goals?
Do you want to reduce your tax burden? Do you want to increase your assets?
We can help!
We specialize in personal income tax preparation and planning, and will identify the tax-saving approaches that apply to your situation. We work with you throughout the year, not just when it’s time to prepare your return.
Do you want to find out how you can reduce your tax burden? You might be able to save on taxes by:
- Restructuring your investment portfolio to produce a higher after-tax return;
- Shifting income to dependents in a lower tax bracket;
- Claiming appropriate home office deductions;
- Maximizing qualified plan and IRA contributions;
- Identifying all the deductions that apply to your small business.
If you’re like most people, your taxes represent one of your largest annual expenses, yet often little or no planning is done to minimize your tax bill. Careful tax preparation and planning can free up money that you can use to achieve your goals. As personal income tax specialists, we will help you aggressively pursue every deduction you are lawfully entitled to.
Would you worry less if you had more money to save toward your goals? Contact us to discuss your goals, situation, and concerns. We’ll help you make the best investment decisions.
